Simultaneously, the GOP’s cancel culture fixation may be seen as a sign that the party is straying from what it once stood for, and instead fixating on non-substantive debates.
Seems that it has come to be pretty meaningless. Disagreeing is not canceling. It doesn’t really seem to be causing a problem for folks though. It’s certainly not shutting them up.
The other aspect is the denial of a full picture of history to concentrate on some smaller detail. For example, excoriating Lincoln or Washington for their obvious failings by today’s standards. That is much more worrisome, but, I think, temporary. That feels like a fad rather than a movement.
