A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that over the last five months per capita deaths in the U.S., both from COVID-19 and other causes have been far greater than in 18 other high-income countries.
The study looks at all mortality, assuming that most of the excess deaths could be attributable to COVID. This is a valid assumption. There will be some noise. However, even taking actual COVID counts we fare worse.
The worst is yet to come. People are letting their guard down in countries that have sustained low rates for a while.
