Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday defended his decision to roll back a statewide mask mandate and denounced President Joe Biden for calling the move “neanderthal thinking” — continuing a cycle of conservative outrage over the critical remark from the White House.
In an interview on Fox News, the Republican governor said the lifting of the mask mandate “really wasn’t all that much different from where we were before” in Texas, and that he was “still strongly advocating” for the state’s residents to cover their faces in public.
“Strongly advocating” doesn’t hack it. Folks are going to hear that everything is open and safe when it is not. There will be a surge.
