Andrew M. Cuomo’s precipitous rise and fall in New York over the past year illustrates that this instinct is both bipartisan and double-edged. The urge to identify a foil to Trump, to elevate an antidote to his erratic covid-19 response, was so strong that the Democratic governor emerged as the unlikely anti-Trump, despite his manifest flaws.

All people are flawed. Never place anyone on a pedestal. You are bound to be disappointed. I don’t know much about Cuomo or his record in New York, but this sounds worse than anything Franken did.
